1.   Summary

Currently, there is a delay between when SupportConsole is shipped to a customer site and when it is actually installed and deployed. This installation and deployment delay is mainly caused by a lengthy corporate security review process or the customer’s lack of understanding of what SupportConsole is and is intended to do in their data center. With this delay, the SupportConsole is at risk of being misplaced within the customer’s data center; or the equipment is returned to NetApp when the customer cannot get security clearance for deployment. This is costly to NetApp in terms of equipment and customer experience.

To address these issues, the SupportConsole ordering and fulfillment process is now divided into three stages:

  • Stage 1: Instead of shipping a SupportConsole when it is requested from the Quote Tool, a SupportConsole Welcome Kit is shipped. This kit contains a welcome letter from NGS, a SupportConsole datasheet, and a step-by-step preinstallation check list for SupportConsole. After placing the order for the SupportConsole Welcome Kit, no further action is required from by the sales administrator.

The checklist outlines all the key preparation steps required by the customer before SupportConsole can be installed. The customer reviews the check list and implements the preinstallation steps before notifying their NetApp professional services engineer (PSE) that they are now ready for SupportConsole deployment.

  • Stage 2: Upon customer notification, the NetApp PSE orders a SupportConsole on behalf of the customer. The ordering is handled via the RMA process between the PSE and the CSR.

  • Stage 3: The CSR orders a SupportConsole from the RMA depot and registers the customer information in Vantive.
